My drug of choice

Sunday, July 30, 2006

Dude at mung.net has (yet another) insightful and unique description, this one of a "narcotizing yellow-orange-blue glow from horizon to zenith." I think he's talking about this night, July 16 or 17.

Rain is worth only the occasional comment about an unusual rain. I have it on empirical evidence that Sunday morning all of Astoria -- soundly asleep in their upstairs bedrooms, windows opened to the smooth night air -- all (except the hardy souls who were preparing for Sunday market) of Astoria this morning around 5:35 was awakened by a gentle rain on the roof. We imagined our next water bills coming in well under three figures as we listened a few minutes more, waiting patiently for the gentle summer shower to lull us back to sleep.

Okay, I'm awake now. I wonder if the lilies are taking a beating.

Alright, already, I'm UP.

Another hour in which the rain decreased nicely down the other side of the bell curve, and it was all over except for the puffy white clouds and the puffy eyes.
